Campagnolo Victory chainset

Hello enthusiasts,

The smart Campagnolo Victory chainset from the 80's uses an odd Bolt Circle Diameter of 116mm and no one apart from the odd eBay auction can turn up a spare ring.

My main question relates to anyone who can supply original or pattern rings - does anyone know of anyone out there?

Furthermore the c'set uses 52/42 and I was wondering whether a smaller inner ring was ever available please - a 41 would be better, 40 perhaps better still given the lack of ratio choice on 7 speed freehubs these days?

They went right down to 35. There was briefly a Gran Sport 116mm double available, and the smaller rings were a bit more commonly available then.

I used Victory cranks on a bike I rode on and raced on for nearly a decade. They were as stiff if not stiffer than Dura Ace of the same vintage. During this time, I only had one bike, and I logged some serious kms. In all that time, I never needed to change a chainring. This was pre-indexing though, so you might not get the same mileage these days...

My point though is.. that you don't need to have a ready supply of chainrings for your bike to be functional. You will also have plenty of time to look for another one before your current one wears out.

Now, that still doesn't solve the problem of where to get your first one from. Strange sizes do occasionally turn up on Ebay, but if you can't find what you are looking for, you can get one from a specialist manufacturer.

In the UK the best seems to be Highpath Engineering but my local manufacturer, Underground Cycles does them for a fraction of the cost: about $50 AUD. Lots of guys around here use these, especially for track racing.

Incedentally, the Highpath Engineering site has a good reference section on drivetrains, and is especially useful for people who want to mix and match Campag and Shimano components of different speeds. I'll leave it to the nerds to post links to these bits in the appropriate places.

I'm very grateful indeed for the input. Didn't know of other 116bcd manufacturers. I agree that it's a really nice chainset but coupled with a smallest sprocket of 24 on the back, I need a little more these days to get over those Sussex downs, hence trying to find a 41 chainring from somewhere

At least I now have other potential search options, so thanks guys very much.

you could try Spa cycles at Harrogate. Ive never been there, but they have a reputation for stocking odd items and running the place like an old, traditional bike shop.
