Does anyone out there know a good way of identifying particular models and gear ranges of Campagnolo mechs? I've got 3, one if which I can't identify. It's an old Mirage rear but I don't know if it's 8 or 9 speed.

any ideas?

There isn't really a difference as the cassette throw is the same.

Should work fine with both. But it is a pre-2001 9 speed, so you need a pre-2001 9s shifter. In 2001 the cable pull per click changed.

Hubs are easier! 8s has shallow splines, 9/10s has deep ones. You can retrofit an 8s hub with a 9/10s freehub body.

This is probably a good idea, as 8s cassettes are hard to find and it's easier to buy a 9, discard the largest cog and rebuild with the 8s spacers.

That mech is probably 8-speed but 9-speed compatible if using pre-10-speed era ergos.

Cutoff point is 2000. They changed indexing slightly when they introduced 10-speed.
