Here's a scarey idea; I either never use sticky backing or I leave the backing tape on. It's so much easier AND if done right it stays on just as well.

I use a double wrap foam/gel cork what ever the maker calls it and I don't wear gloves anymore because it provides adequate padding for most of my 30 miles jaunts. Still do wear gloves for century rides though.

Ah but that stuff's expensive and not very retro. I just got some very slightly padded plastic stuff that's all but identical to my Pug's OE tape. £1.50 from ebay!

Back in the day my dad taught me to put bar tape on starting near the stem - apparently a certain Mr Mercx did it that way. Now we are supposed to satrt at the bar end and use lecky tape to finish. The former is neater , but the later is easier.

Tips-
* aim for a starting overlap of nearly a full width.
* check embossed logos - Deda tapes are rolled for left and right.
* when looking down at the bars wind inside to out
* a dry run will always be perfect the real go will be cack!
* within a week you'll rip or pull the tape
