Difficult to say without the actual ID. Looks to be carbon. I'd say £200'ish but as I sent without identification you may have to settle for less....

Just wondering how rare/valuable a 24 spoke track wheelset is.

They're currently on my track bike, stored at the velodrome. I'm not racing these days due to arrival of babies at home etc...

I'm starting to wonder if I'll ever get back to track racing, so need to make a decision on the bike/wheels. The frame is nothing special, nor are the components, although the new Miche Primato chainset is nice. But the wheels are unusual, they're 24 spoke LF Record track hubs (70's version) rebuilt about 4 years ago onto Sun sprint rims. I had to order the rims from the US as 24 spoke sprint rims are hard to find. I had them professionally laced up with Sapim spokes. Currently shod with Conti Competition tubs. Needless to say, they're very fast wheels in perfect condition, and I don't particularly want to sell them....just curious though...

My brother has been offered a Certini. This would appear to be made in the Cornwall/Plymouth area. It has Columbus Genius tubing and a mixture of 105 and Tiagra. It also has Mavic Cosmos wheels.

I'm not familiar with the tubing or wheels and would appreciate a little help.

Thanks.

The components don't sound like anything special, so ignore them they're probably worth nothing. The basic Cosmos wheelset is quite ordinary, so again, not worth much 2nd hand. But a Genius tubed frameset could be very special and worth a lot. I would be surprised if a frameset of this standard was sold with cheap components, so I'm guessing the whole bike isn't an 'off the shelf' model. Do you know how old it is ? I think it's pretty much the best steel tubeset Columbus made. I don't know much about frames that the Certini bike shop had made, and whether they're particularly special or not. I don't even think they're Italian made, despite the name, although if they were British made, that's not a problem by any means. Details of the headset will inidicate the age. A picture would be quite useful if possible.

Hi all,

New around here...

I came across my Dads old bike in the cellar the other day, it's a Ken Bird, from the mid 70's...that's all I really know about it!

I've attached a photo, let me know if you think any close ups would be good!

I was going to clean it up a bit, get a new saddle and tape for the handlebars and get it all running smoothly, but before I do any more than that, would anyone be able to give me a rough idea as to how much it may be worth?

Thanks!

It looks cheap judging by the comPonents but as far as I know Ken Bird did not do cheap so possibly a nice frame built up with beater parts. A few close ups of the lugs and dropouts would help. Value as it stands & if the frame is good I'd say about £100 - £130.

Considering selling on my ti syncros, it's in near perfect condition certainly above the limit line, I'll have to remove it to check the rest as it has been a while but was near perfect when I had it & it has been regularly cleaned & lubed.
So, how much is it worth?
