Hi guys,
a guy that I know is selling a claud butler majestic 531 reynolds frame in good condition, he asked for an offer....what's a fair price?

And price aside, being this bike a tourer, shall I expect a heavier bike than a contemporary racer with a 531 frame, e.g. I am considering as a concurrent purchase a raleigh record ace 531 frame?

Cheers

I happen to have a mint Record Ace with 531, Campa drop outs, chromed, enamelled cut outs, pinstriping and so on. I can tell what I would want for it in case of a sale and that is 150 gbp shipped.

No idea of the other bike.

A bit like Dawes Galaxies, old Claud tourers like Majestics, Dalesmen and Regents seem to do quite good money. I guess £100 would be fair, depending on the age, condition and spec of the bike. I don't think there's anything wrong at all with starting lower though. Sometimes a low offer kind of helps sellers work out how much they value their bike...

Having reverted to a steel frame for various reasons, my trusty Look KG241 frame (probably 15 or so years old??) will be for sale soon, and I was looking for a bit of help re. pricing. The frame was second-hand when I bought it and has never been crashed by either of its owners so is extremely sound structurally. Decals are largely in good nick but the paint itself has chips here and there, especially in the BB, seat lug and top tube areas - nothing major though. It's got a threaded Time Sprint carbon fork (cromoly steering tube) fitted, with Stronglight A9 headset (bought new about 3 yrs ago) and a black TIG-welded Salsa steel stem (acquired via Retrobike!!) plus Campag gear cable adjusters on the down tube and a free-running Shimano UN5x series BB (can't remember spindle length). Forks are in lacquered carbon finish, frame is in the mostly bright yellow (with some navy blue) Kelme-Costa Blanca team livery. Only downside is that the stem seems to have seized in the steerer column somewhat, but probably curable with "Plus-Gas" or similar. Any ideas on a realistic asking price?

Thanks in advance,
David

I saw one of those today...

...anyway, I have one in good condition and the same colour, and I think I paid £20 a couple of years ago. Could have been a little more but I don't think so.
