Record rear derailleur cable adjuster

Rapparee87

Retro Guru
Hi, I'm fitting my 1987 Rapparee (Irish made frame in SLX) with late 90s Record Ergopower components, I've fitted the gear cables and any advice about the cable adjuster on the rear derailleur? Should the adjuster be screwed up or down to begin with, to index it properly? It's an 8 speed cassette 12-21 with 9 speed levers.

Thanks.

If I'm fitting a cable by hand I start with the adjuster screwed in almost to the point of the spring being coil bound, if I'm using a 3rdhand or cable pliers then I set the adjuster about half way through it's travel.

One turn back from tight. When building up you can never set a gear cable too tight, so you will invariably have to take it up a little.
