Bit of a strange one this:

Mid 80's roadbike, shimano 600 groupset.

When pedalling I'm getting some lateral movement, difficult to describe but it's like a 'limp' or a flat spot. It's only on the left hand (non drive crank).

It seems to go away when I'm pedalling hard or climbing.

I have replaced the pedals and tightened the crank bolts and it still does it, and I can't get it to do it on the stand, only when riding.

Help!

You've either got a knackered B/B or the taper has worn on the crank. If it's the latter, no amount of tightening will fix it.

Try the cranks on another bike to prove the fault.

Hopefully I can save the cranks, I doubt it will be easy to find a new set. They haven't bottomed out on the taper, so I might be ok.

I'll get a new BB for it and go from there
