Cougar - Columbus Fluted Tubing

The latest addition to my little Cougar collection arrived today, and as I had hoped it's something a bit special...

All 3 main tubes are fluted. There are 5 flutes.

Dropouts are Columbus as is the decal, which is of a type used by professional repainted... So I'm going to assume the tubing is indeed Columbus.

The fluting is deep and well defined a la Gilco, but the 5 flutes have me slightly unsure. I have read that a very rare version of the Columbus Gilco tubing had 5 flutes and was known as Silva, but I have no way of knowing.

Anybody got any ID tips?

I'm definitely looking forward to this retromod.

As the paint job is already non-original, she'll be getting an upgrade to pearl white and something more upmarket than the 8 speed Athena currently fitted... Possibly 11 speed, but definitely lower ratio... 52-42 and a 12-20 block is not the gearing for round here!

I actually took the photos just before I put some flats on to go for a quick test ride. It's got a really nice feel.

It'll be getting stripped and sent off for painting shortly.

Interesting project Ken hope its gonna be a rich pearl, love the way that glimmers in the sun.

I think it will be... The top tube lugs have little heart-shaped cutouts, so they might get filled in red... For a laugh. Obviously.

Lovely, good choice for colour change. I recently went to a Roberts open day and this pearl white beauty was there, with the chromed lugs it really looked smart. But then it does belong to Andy Palmer of API resprays!

I've emailed Dolan as Terry has resurrected the Cougar brand and is doing resprays, renovations and custom steel new builds (welded) alongside the current Dolan range.

Not had s reply yet, but I like the idea of it going back to its creator for a bit of tlc...

Anybody used the Dolan bikes paintshop or renovation services?
