Terry Dolan emailed back tonight to say that he thinks it's a 1989 build using Gilco tubing.

So... Whole hog respray and build it is... This is as good as steel gets.

White, deep pearl paintwork and a Record 11 speed groupset. I might even build black rimmed wheels for this one.

Terry bought one of the Cougar frames I was selling last year on eBay. It was nice to see it going home!

Plans sound great!

I wonder where it is now?

I thought about popping in to Dolan Bikes when I was passing through that neck of the woods on LEJOG last year. I figured I would be in too much danger of blowing my schedule, particularly if there had been any Cougars there, so thought better of it.

Nice to see some Gilco...I built a frame for a customer back in around 1995 with it.
TBH it weighed more than SL or SLX, I suspect that it needed to be plain gauge tubing to cope with the forming process, but God it was cool:

Thanks, I enjoyed making it, especially the fork...love those straight 'Pinarello' things, but my painter hated the masking involved.
It was chromed all over, then translucent purple top coat, lugs masked with the chromed rear tips.

The Original client was based in Cambridgeshire.
It's still out there somewhere, I think.
Came up on eBay a few years ago.

All the best,

Hats off!

So... 5 months later, I have finally sent this away for renovation. When she comes back, it will be with a pearl white finish and royal blue Cougar decals.

Groupset will be a mixed NOS/eBay 11 speed Record setup with a very pretty Super Record 5-arm chainset at the middle. Seatpost, stem, bars and other finishing kit will be decided once I get the frame back.

Wheels will be either Archetype or TB14 rims on Record hubs... And, shock horror (for me at least) they will probably be black... Maybe.

After a completely justifiable delay due to the paint shop being vacated in response to the ongoing Corona virus issue, I got a very unexpected and welcome email this morning to say that my frame is ready... And will arrive tomorrow

I currently feel like a ten year old on Christmas Eve!
