Headset help

Started to build up a frame tonight with a Chorus headset. The frame is a 1988 Bianchi.

Looks like the steerer has previously cut for a headset with a lower stack height. After the screwed race I have a couple of threads so I guess I’m 5mm or so short.

Are there any Chorus or C Record era headsets with a lower stack (I’m guessing I need 35mm ish)

Any suggestions?

Shimano did a pista low stack height headset from that period. Going to have a think. For Campag it might have to be NR pista or Gran Sport which is the wrong era.

I’d be struck by lightning if I put a shimano on it ;-)
I know where I there is a new Super Rec pista headset - I need to check the stack height on velobase.

I assume there’s no other reason I can’t use a pista Headset?

Nothing to stop you using Pista headset, :). 33.7mm stack according to Velobase. BITD we used pista headsets on our TT bikes.... The 5mm of head tube must have weighed a lot lol. Trend dissappeared when nice alloy headsets like Edco appeared :) don't forget the small balls....

A tange levin or a passage could be an option as they are under 34mm stack height with the passage maybe 31mm.... have a look at Ritchey headsets also as I think some are 34mm stack height also..

Re:

Thanks Nob. I think I’ve found a Super Record Pista at sensible money (new boxed). I really wanted to fit CRecord or chorus but I guess it’s not to be

Just out of curiosity how much was it, the words Super Record-NOS-Boxed and sensible money don't often go together LOL

Re:

it was £90 posted - which I thought was OK
