Viner cutlery? I think not-Viner Stella Special Professional

So it's my wife's birthday and she asked me for a new Viner set.

Thought I'd surprise her with something a little more exciting and engaging than just a knife and fork set: a shiny viner 'set and fork! :D

Short in the leg, long in the body required a max seat tube of 47.5cm- not an easy spec to find and this frame was probably bespoke to its original owner.

I've checked the official frame sizes and this one is comfortably smaller than ex-works offerings.

Viner Stella, class :) one of the most expensive frames you could buy in the 70's.......

More than a Raleigh 753!

Re:

Being from Sheffield, we had a tour round the viner cutlery factory whilst I was at college. Long been demolished, the viner name is now imported stuff

Re: Viner Special Professional (Stella)

Back from the paint shop and in my wife's chosen colour scheme of "Audi" Green (yes, really!) and reasonably close to the original released colour + yellow detailing. Nice job by Rourkes in Burslem-if only I could...

Re: Viner cutlery set? I think not. Viner Special Professional

Nice colour :) it's a Stella professional not a Special Professional?

Re:

Glad you like the colour: my first green frame ever!

I have understood that "Stella" was a reference to the star cut outs and judging by the ad posted it was marketed as such in the UK. However, I believe the model is still a Special Professional. The B&W ads posted in other threads refer to it as the "Stella Special" and the "Viner Stella Professional", whilst also referring to it as one of the "Stella Special Professional Framesets". So it's been referenced in may different ways!

To the best of my knowledge there isn't a "Stella" transfer, but maybe the UK model didn't have the "Special Professional" transfer either. Not sure this was the same for all markets.

Ref https://vineristi.wordpress.com/2011/09 ... d-crosses/

"Basically, the Special Professional was the top of the range, it had Star (Stella) cut out lugs (including a massive cut out star on the bottom bracket shell) and was built with Columbus tubing (more than likely SL). These were the frames that were usually exported to the UK and US."

Thanks for any further insight.

Green was a classic viner colour :)

Here's mine, the track version of yours which has been modified into a TT frame
