Was wondering if anyone would be able to help identify a bike I recently bought.

Got it from a small shop just north of London after a tip off from a cycling g friend.

It looks late 40s early 50s but has quite distinctive lugs as you can see from the pictures. It's also huge at 26inches.

Unfortunately had a respray at some point and no head badge (and no holed for one) or decals.

The shop said guy who brought it in was 6ft7in and said it was his Dad's and even too big for him as his dad was taller !

He said it was a Pearson.....which is my local shop but as far as I'm aware they never built their own frames although I don't know their early history.

At first thought it might be a Gillott Spearpoint having looked at some photos but have contacted Marque enthusiast Mark Stevens who says he's 99% certain it isn't as the top and down tube extension's are wrong and he said it was a bit crude for them.

Wheels have FB Hubs with 53 date code on cones which sounds right for style if frame.

Does anyone here have any ideas ?

Nice looking frame in what appears to be good condition. Probably had a respray at some time looking at the rear dropouts and some replacement brake stirrups as the Weinmann's now fitted are a lot later than the frame.

Nice frame - and my size too!

Gillott would've been my thought too. Any sign of drilling for a head badge? I wonder if there are any clues under the paint?

Pat Hanlon ? I seem to remember head tube lugs with the long points on frames & in the shop could have been built for a third party but to use an horticultural ter there was a good amount of cross pollination in that area at around that time
