Didn’t know I had one. Was sorting tat pulled the tub off and started cleaning it. Another odd one off in my ever growing collection of odd bits.

They would have been made for Milremo/Ron Kitching by a recognised rim manufacturer. Wasn't 'Scheeren' a manufacturer or is this just the generic name for a wood-insert rim?

I have a 40 hole Milremo Scheeren rim hanging up in the shed. They started making them in the 30s but I think my one is 50s. I think it’s got a Record sticker on it too. With those hubs (and the way the decals look) I’d say yours are mid to late 50s.

I can’t find any information anywhere about them, other than a basic mention. I was sort of hoping I might find a 32 hole one to go with it, but I gave up that hope years ago!

Re:

You seem to have those 8 ounce Scheeren rims, I built a number of these back in the 50/60s. They were a bit fragile when new, so, if you build them do not tighten them like a modern rim. They had an amazing feel on the road with a 6 ounce tubular.
In fact they were so prone to damage in transit that I always ordered them from Ron to be packed inside a crate lot (25 pairs) of other rims.

Mrs, K used hers from 1966 to 1977, and they were then hung up and forgotten, until I sold most of our bikes. They were then polished and built into useful wheels being some 50 years old.

Forgot: The Weimann wood insert had a single strip of wood right round, the Scheerens were separate blocks of some laminated wood curved to fit the rim.

Re:

One has a dent in it that looks like it was dropped with no tub on. 32 hole front and back would be pretty light. I’ll get them on the kitchen scales sometime.
Thanks for your info.
