frame identity

Hi guys
Trying to find what frame brand/make this is I was informed that it could be a Chas Roberts (UK) Custom Audax.
Any ideas please so I don't go grey :) Previous owner had it resprayed and isn't sure :( he said it could be Roberts or Ribble??

Hi all I can see is 0819 stamped on B.B. it also has bottle cage holes underneath the down tube. Cheers Tob

It has some similarities with my Roberts Audax (I have four Roberts, and know a fair bit about them), but the frame number is wrong - and in the wrong position on the BB.

I know who built these at Roberts, so I'm inclined to confirm that it is not a Roberts.

N.B if I ever repaint a frame I'll always take a photo in the pre-restored condition to preserve it's provenance - after all there's no comparison between a Roberts and a Ribble.

Thx for your help it’s hard because it’s been resprayed so I’m trying to find out to build it up as an original is there any other way of finding out?

Regarding build, for example a Roberts frameset is just that, so it could have been built up in accordance with the buyers wishes (with advice from the builder) or taken as a bare frame and built up by the buyer.

The only originality you could seek is period originality (I think the frame is probably 1980s - probably second half).

n.b does it have vertical rear dropouts ?

Yes drops outs are vertical.

Wheels ?

Built for 700c, as it's an Audax should take at least a 28.
