List of British manufacturers frame numbers

I'm looking for a comprehensive list of British bike builders frame numbers, their location and if prefixed or suffixed. Knowledge of how the frame number can be used to find date and other information would be great.
I know there are a few guides on the web but they only mention a few makers.
If there isn't a list perhaps we can start one here.

It certainly is, and most likely take a huge chunk of someones life just to set up :)
I agree there are lots of individual specialists for various marquees and having a central point where they could store and update records as well as a central place/site where individuals could access or ask questions would be good. Worth looking further into. Maybe we could put a sticky thread up where someone who already holds or compiles these for a marquee could post them and then a separate section for discussion. Even that on here is a lot of work but doable. I will ask about the mods and see what we could do, though it would be dependant on those with the list wanting to put them here as often they have their own sites etc.
I think it is worthwhile as even a few of the sites I visit for my bikes they are no longer updated and two I use regularly have not been updated for years. I always think once someone stops paying those bills for the server then all that historical information goes into the abyss.

Re:

Does the OP fully understand the magnitude and therefore absurdity of the suggestion. I should add that as a long time member of the V-CC (3 digit membership number) I should add that we have marque specialists who are a mine of information to members.

Hardly absurd. Huge undoubtedly but if individuals collated their collective knowledge it would be of benefit to all surely.

The magnitude of the task makes it absurd - see my first post.

That's a shame as you undoubtedly have a great deal of knowledge to share that would benefit lots of people.
If everyone listed bike manufacturer and model age if known serial number and location for each bike they own it would provide more data in one place than anywhere else online.

There's a great deal of knowledge on this forum, which is often and freely shared. However, what you suggest is a huge task, perhaps you could give us all an insight into why you seek such a list ?

You would need a dedicated website database thing? with links and then a search somehow on maker, letters/ numbers found, or model? not sure how it would work but would be very useful. members could contribute their frame details and numbers to the database.
