Retro Newbie
Dear cycle friends,

I recently picked up an old pinarello and will try to restore it.
I want to know what model it is and the year.
Your help and expertise is much appreciated.
If ou happen to know the collor code that would be great as well.

Re:

Welcome to the addictive world of classic steel frame bikes.

Your Pinarello certainly looks like it's seen better days but it's a gem in need of restoration.

Take a look at the Pinarello catalogue from 1982 and I think you'll be able to identify your bike as a Pinarello Prestige.

The main identifying factor is the internal top tube cabling for the rear brake. The second feature is the absence of bottle cage bosses on the seat tube.

The Montello, which also had internal cabling on the top tube was released later in about 1984 and had bottle cage bosses on the seat tube.

I've got a early 80's Pinarello Record Special, that I bought as a frame and is a very similar colour to yours. Don't know the colour code, but it's reasonably easy to get a colour match if you take the frame to a paint specialist.

Good luck with the restoration

Re:

Just checked images of early Montello's and they did only have one set of bottle bosses on the down tube.

Also the bottom bracket shell on your bike is Montello in style.

So you may have a top of the range Pinarello from the early 80's.

:D :D :D

Looks like a Montello to me. The panto, cable routing and the lack of chainstay bridge makes it likely (I have one). Looks like a nice chromovelato job too. worth carefully stripping and polishing then colour matched lacquer/clear coat. Plenty of decals available on the web

I agree it's a Montello. Is the DA groupset a 7 speed would indicate late 80's or very early 90's. If 8 speeed could indicate early - mid 90's. Very nice frame and certainly underrated (so far) for an iconic brand/model .
