I'm probably being a roadie noob, but I have a set of RSX triple cranks A-410 I think, and need to replace the BB in the steel frame I'm fitting them too, it's a 68mm shell, and I happen to have a decent BB already but it's 110mm long, will that be ok?

I believe 110 is for a double and 118 for triple. Though mounting the bb and slipping on the crank to check the inner ring clearance may give you a success with the 110.

I was hoping that with the 68mm she’ll and skinny steel seat tube I might get away with it

You may be lucky, I have managed some shorter axles than recommended in the past. Proof of the pudding means fitting it to see.
