Downtube shifter sitting slightly up

Putting my abilita back together last night I remembered that the left/front downtube shifter sits slightly up in its base position

kinda like drawing A when it should be like drawing B, and the right/rear shifter sits correctly

I've checked the bosses and they appear to be aligned to each other
Shifters are RX100 7 speed

any thoughts or comments please....

Left hand shift should sit up. They are designed to be like that.

There are some base plates you can get that allow them to both sit parallel to the downtube.

I'm very much of the ergopower era - only had one quality bike with DT shifters and that must've had the "flat" backing plate
