Taking paint off

My Peugeout Perthus Pro (753) is showing signs of bubbling, and the paint is pretty shot after 30 or so years.

Want to pull the paint off it, see if all ok before getting a respray - any tips on how to do it. Fine grain sandpaper seems to work, but at the rate I'm going, my grandkids will be finishing it off...

industrial strength paint stripper from the bay. like old nitromors but stronger.

Re:

I favour mechanical methods over chemical.
If you are going back to bare metal I'd start with a cabinet scraper. Save the abrasive paper until later.

And don't let any potential media-blaster/refinisher near it unless you are sure they understand lightweight bike frames. Especially with 753.

Paint strippers are near useless now due to EU bans on the strong chemicals in the old stuff. As torqueless says a cabinet scraper plus a wire brush for the lugs and tube joints. Last one i stripped I also used a hot air gun to soften and bubble it before scraping. Job went quite quickly. Just use a fine sandpaper to give it a final clean

Re:

Paint strippers can no longer use Methylene Chloride so they are all now a good bit slower in use. I use it at work occasionally but for what it costs against how fast it works, you may as well just pay someone to strip the frame either chemically, try a local specialist door/furniture stripper. Or mechanically, certainly for steel, just get it media blasted.
If you are a cyclist you probably value your lungs so for the sake of a few quid I'd just pay to get it done.
