Belgian Road Ride: Unofficial Dwars Door Hageland 18 June

Hello,

I've put together a ride for the 18th of June, starting in Leuven, Belgium.

The route is (roughly) based on the Dwars Door Het Hageland pro race, which goes over some of the lesser-known cobbles
and unpaved sections of Flemish Brabant. The course is ca. 108 km.

Participation is free, and the ride is self-supporting (no camion balai or official mechanical help). I've planned three stops at local cafes along the route.

You can view the full course here:

I think the route is comparable in difficulty to the Retro Ronde, and it would be a nice consolation route since there's no RRVV this year.

Retro bikes are not mandatory but are strongly encouraged.

Highlights include:
- Start and finish at the picturesque Vlierbeek Abbey near Leuven
- Route passes through Meensel-Kiezegem, birthplace of some bloke called Eddy who won a few races in the 1970s
- Stops at some typical cycle cafes and Flemish "brown cafes"
- Cobbled climb of the Citadel of Diest (only recently open to the public)
- Other climbs used for training by local heroes like Sven Nys and Jan Bakelants

Get in touch by PM or by replying to this thread if you're interesed.

Cheers,

Johnny
