1989 :) (the 3rd digit is the year)

There are some brochures on here somewhere from that era which might shed some light on the model.

Re:

Strip the modern tat off it,try and get the seat pin and stem out. Then off to Argos for a respray.

Re:

Having just dated my Randonneur I suggest that WD9000209 indicates that the machine was originally built in Nottingham (W originally denoted Worksop but Raleigh continued using the initial after Worksop closed in about 1981). D indicates that it was built in March and 9 the year; 1989 (the numbering system will tend to duplicate this number every 10 years). The last three digits are the unit number (possibly the model unit number) thus the 209th machine built in March 1989. I think that's how it goes. Well done on rescuing a Raleigh by the way, I have just done the same with a 1987 Randonneur otherwise destined for the tip.

That's what I was thinking but was stuck for other yellow bikes. However I just remembered there was a low end cro/mo framed bike with 300lx groupset in a darker yellow. Eclipse? Equipe? Pretty sure it was E-something :)

is that just a lighting effect where the top tube meets the head tube?
