Joining a chain with Shimano chain link pin

bedraggled

Senior Retro Guru
Has anyone ever managed to join a Shimano chain with the little pin.
If you have, HOW?

EDIT: Finally got it to work, think my previous joining pin must have been the wrong size.

Really? Just shove it in, drive it through til it clicks with your chain tool then snap off the excess. I find the quick links a pain since the move to 10 speed.

The pointy bit passes straight through the chain, the ridged part clicks into position to join the chain. Snap off pointy bit job done.

What are you trying to push it in with?

Seem someone trying to use pliers before now.

I'm using a chain tool but if no one else has this issue it must be me being hopeless.
Probably a combination of bad eyesight and no patience.

I love most Shimano stuff, I still use a 600 tricolor group from the 80's but I do not like the design of their chains. If , like me you like to remove your chain for cleaning you will need a new pin every time you take your chain off. I have switched to KMC brand chains, very reasonable price, durable and quiet and best of all comes with a reusable master link.
