I have a pair of DA 7402 8 speed hubs. Can I put a DA 9 speed cassette and cassette hub body on it? If so, will it still work with the DA 7402 8 speed rear mech?

You can put a 9 or 10 speed cassette on an 8 speed hub body, they're all the same. no need to change the freehub. I don't think the 7402 mech will work though - it and the 7402 levers had a different cable pull (the same as later 9 speed). 9 speed 7700 dura ace levers will work a 7402 cassette perfectly on an 8 speed cassette, but not on a 9 speed.
You'd need a 9 speed rear mech and shifters too.
Any reason why you can't just use 8 speed everything?

Thanks for all that info. I fancied a 9 speed titanium cassette but if it's a case of changing
more than just the gear levers, then I probably wouldn't even go there.
