British Spoke convention

British Spoke convention, sounds just a bit like the name of a folk group.
Can a forum member please advise when we changed from the 32/40 spoke to 36/36?
Trying to source a couple of Hubs for my 1948 Claud Butler.
Plenty of High Flange 36 hole, or even 32/40, but for fixed wheel!
Very interested to know how and when the changeover occurred

Re:

Seems likely when Dunlop stopped making rims and tyres for TI/Raleigh.
When I left the cycle retailing in 1967 32/40 was still the standard, but I built many others. There were plenty of gear sided hubs in the 50s /60s. Campagnolo GS QR hubs really started here about 1955, previously BH BW were popular. We used mainly tubular tyres because the 4.5 inch rear width left the 27 x 1 1/4 alloy rims extremely weak, with the gear side spokes nearly vertical.

Hello keith,
Thanks for the reply
My problem with the wheels may not be as acute, as I have 26" wheels
Looking for wheels or in some cases complete bikes, to try and source difficult to find parts, there seem to be a lot of sixties machines with 36 spoke wheels. They could of course be newer replacements.

I'd be happy to attend with my increasing amount of Bradkiss,Sapim and others.Would it be wise to keep them in plane wrappers so as not to draw attention to our secret world.
