Tubs, OK for the real world or run and be very scared.......

I've just bought a 70's / 80's cyclocross bike. I've only had chance to open the box and notice it has tubulars, which doesn't scare me (I've had them before), but are they actually practical? Or should I get the nice Campag Record hubs built up with period clincher rims???
 
I've had no problems commuting on Tufo tubs. The S33 is a really tough tyre. If they puncture you repair them with a can of Pit Stop or similar because the tube is part of the casing, as I understand it.
 
When I was a lad we only had tubs (or heavy 27" wired-ons) and used them all year round. However, as soon as 700C wheels and tyres appeared there was a massive shift for general riding.

Are you going to use the bike for CX? If so then some decent CX tubulars might be the way to go.
