Well looks like I'm on a roll picked up this Henry Burton i couldn't say no as it was just up the road from me. Im wondering if this is one of the Henry Burton shop made bikes as its got really nice lugs and i some very nice better end kit. Suntour cyclone front and rear mechs shimano 600 aberesque chain set Campag record front and rear hubs Mavic GP4 rims frame is very light. not sure what tubing its made out of the seat post is 26.4mm. Any one know much about these bikes i can't find any markings on the frame just on the bottom bracket the numbers 4299.
all the components seem to date from around the late 70's early 80's.

cheers Alun

Looking at the wheel clearances (730 deep brakes at the bottom of the slots) I would say it was built for 27" wheels. Along with the above bracket cable guides and clamp on gear lever possibly late 60's early 70's? However, this doesn't necessarily fit in with brazed on top tube cable guides and bottle cage mounts. Perhaps it had a respray and some work done? The HB decals look more modern than 60's/70's. Weren't the period ones more like a script?

Thanks for that guy's i might give the shop a ring see if they can tell me anything. All the gear on it ive looked at seems to date from around the late 70's early 80's. Yes Ned i also thought that it was made for bigger wheels I'm trying to work out what tubing its made of. Ive done some digging about and I'm maybe thinking it might be 531ST as ive come across a few threads on some other forums where chaps have had bikes made for them out of 531ST and they've got 26.4mm seat posts. Also Reynolds supplied ST tubing to Peugeot and there are a few of them floating around with 26.4mm seat tubes. This fame is quite light its easily as light as my Dawes impulse which is 531 tubed.

cheers for all your help guy's

If you do a Google search for Henry Burton cycles and then click on images there is a very nice red HB track bike that comes up its got very similar decals to mine the guy that owns its say its from the early 90's. There are a few other pics of HB's but none seem to have the lug work that mine has.

Some one at some point as put commuter bars on and a stupid stubby stem those are first to go it looks to me like this was possibly made for touring.

This is looking to be one really interesting thread with all the suggested years in the mix but at least if the shop can't prove the year off the frame number the style of frame has got to give them a clue once they've seen those lovely lug design's ..

Cheer Muddy paw i was thinking the same thing the brazed on top cable guides and the parts that are fitted seem to put it at early 80's the the long front fork throws it out a bit tho as it looks to be for 27 inch wheels which would put it earlier than that. I will try and give the shop a ring at the weekend but ive come across a post on another forum where the chap was trying to date his HB said the shop was very helpful but they didn't keep records of bikes for long.
