Raleigh Grand Sports + Stupid Questions

Retro Newbie
Hello,

I bought this bike the other day for 280 Canadian off of Kijiji. I am new to the vintage road bike thing and I have some stupid questions I hope someone could answer (or at least a couple). Thanks in advance!

1) Was this a good deal? What is it worth?
2) Is this a good bike?3
3) The rear wheel isn't true. Can I replace with 700c's? If so, how do I know which ones will fit?
4) If I want to make this a singlespeed, what do I have to do?

Thank you everyone!

Paul

I'd say its a nice quality bike.

Rims most likely 27'' so 700c might not fit! brake blocks would have to be really lowered.

Make it a singlespeed and you'll ruin a perfectly good 70's bike, please don't do it. find a shit worthless bike instead.

Re:

Hi Paul:

I live in BC. Based on the local market I wouldn't have paid that much for that quality of bike locally. For $280 price point I'd expect to get a good condition example of a mid level bike and prices locally are ridiculously high for old 10 speeds. I imported a Bianchi from Texas for around $320 and it came with second from top of the line Shimano components.
