Protecting Chrome

Is there a way of protecting chrome on my bike?

My latest edition to the stable has near perfect chrome, so was wondering if there is anything i can coat it with to protect it?

I've heard rumors ranging from vaseline to clear nail varnish...

Or is it best to just clean and polish it after every ride?

thats all i hear about with regards to motorbikes and chrome.
spray some on a cloth, rub it all over. this, done on a monthly basis i think does a good job.

that and of course not leaving it in damp environments/drying it off as much as poss after it gets wet.
