Mystery "Peugeot" ID help wanted...

Retro Newbie
Hi all.

Got this bike about three years ago, but only just started using it in earnest. Thought I'd try and research it a bit and have hit a brick wall.
The bike was bought as a refurbished Peugeot, believed to be late '70s (from a keen club cyclist who said it had been his dad's originally).
Not much paid, considering it's refurbed (Sticker says by Bob Jackson Cycles of Leeds), has 700c Campag wheels, Campag Triomphe chainset and rear derailleur, Weinmann brakes etc.
The mystery is that it has only a three digit frame number on BB and not an eight digit Peugeot one. Also has strange metal cable tunnels under BB (see photo). It wears a '75-'79 Peugeot badge on stem-tube and has "Simplex" stamped/cast into rear dropout brackets (came with a spare Simplex derailleur). It has bottle bracket mounts on seat tube only and a single pump mount on rear of stem-tube.
Believed 531 as has a "Reynolds 531 Renovated" transfer on downtube. Colour scheme can be taken as non-original.

Can anyone help identify what it is from the short frame number and/or the metal cable tunnels - can't see why someone would "fake" a run-of-the-mill Peugeot (it's not like it's impersonating a PX10).

Any help appreciated.

BTW, it rides really nicely.

Re:

I've looked through catalogues and can't find this colour scheme. Also, can't see any with this particular pump-mount lug on back of stem tube.
Here's some more pics of various details - maybe something will help identify the frame's origin.

Cheers.
