Rechromed fork & frame - axle won't fit

Hi all,

I've just had a set of forks (and frame) rechromed and unfortunately it looks like the excess material has narrowed the front drop outs such that my axles won't fit!

Should I file down the axle threads?

It also looks like there is slight encroachment of chrome at the top of the head tube meaning I may have problems fitting my headset without removing some material. Is it possible to do this without ruining the chrome? and how should I go about it?

I should have anticipated these issues I suppose but I am a bit wet behind the ears unfortunately. I suppose you live and learn...

Thanks

Problem with adjusting the axle is that other wheels won't fit...........personally I'd adjust the dropout which will expose the Nickel which usually isn't a problem.

LBS should have a facing / reaming tool for the headtube.

Sounds a classy build being all chrome:D

+1 with Shaun.

When the axle is in the drop outs it will wear away the chrome anyway. I get a good fine file and file the drops outs until your axle fits :)

Thanks both. It's a 1990 Supercorsa btw.

Took a risk getting it chromed at a place in Birmingham I hadn't heard of but was affordable. Pretty good results.
