NOS or not NOS that is the question ??

I'm sick to death of looking through ebay and spotting the words NOS,
then the listing says 'new other' and then have a read about the item
and suddenly the so called NOS part is not all that it seems.

1: No box.
2: No instructions.
3: Never been used.
4: Never ridden.
5: Fitted to show bike.
6: Slight shop wear.
7: Insertion marks.
8: Missing part.
9: Purchased in error.

How the fcuk can you call a part NOS if it bloody well isn't :evil:

I get what you are thinking 'retrotrack' but all the above was in a listing of a bike part!

I always check a picture and consider NOS to be (NEVER OPENED STOCK)

Never opened would be NIB = New In Box
NOS = New Old Stock
An old item that is unused* but, not necessarily perfect

*Unused for the purpose it was designed for ie; if you have a NOS brake lever, take it out of the box and squeeze it in your hand, I still believe it's NOS. Conversely, if you fit it to a handle bar it is no longer NOS, even if you don't squeeze the lever (just my interpretation)

On ebay there is always an old packet never opened with crumpled company card with rusty stapes to me that's true NOS!

An example which miffs me off, is someone selling re manufactured Dia comp MX brakes and they found an old used card and stick it above the new brakes which is clearly new stock with an old Dia comp card from the 80's no plastic either :facepalm:

Fixies - yes fixies, why do so many ads have this word? Suitable for fixie etc etc - this annoys me (not swearing) - i have nothing against fixies but why do i keeop seeing it. It is madness - like this

If Ive sold a part that has never been used but its not in a packet I tend to describe it as shop soiled old stock.
