Well you know what, I've been thinking the same thing all day long. I'm glad you said that.
I can't find a Dawes Olympic at all and maybe, you're right.

Its got a W on the lower part of the transfer in a scroll (I think that's what it's called) and it looks to be a large shield emblem.

I've not clapped eyes on it yet, but I'm very intrigued.

I think it is. If you enlarge the third picture you can see red in the shield and what looks to be the end of one sword, but it's a transfer not a badge.

Ahh I thought they were your pics. Could be a nice result if it turns out to be a Holdsworth :)

Nice Constrictor Asp lamp bracket as well. I reckon it's a Holdsworth too. The chainwheel is - I think - possibly a Williams alloy one. The cranks could be Williams but more likely something continental. A trawl through Velobase may be necessary!

Could very well turn out to be a very nice period bike.

Here's with fingers crossed. It's interesting buying bikes 1000 miles away.

Hi

From the mid 50s (at least) and into the 60s, Claud Butler had an "Olympic" model

http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.ph ... ture-Heavy)

and, although in a sorry state, this supposedly 66 bike has features that resemble your upcoming project.

Apparently in 59, the Olympic was sold as a frameset only

http://www.nkilgariff.com/CBcats/Cat_59/CB1959_Cat.htm

Perhaps everything is becoming unclearer by the minute?

Thats just my two penn'orth to give you another lead to follow - and add to the confusion

Cheers
Colnagolover

Take a close look too at the "European" in the Claud Butler '59 catalogue -

just another road to go down -

could end up the bike is cross-pollinated!!
