70's Colnago Super 531c

Just picked this frame up. Scruffy but original and straight.

Are 531 Colnago's common? I'm not really in to road bikes of that era.

Might consider selling and will get some pictures soon.

Hi

While I am a long, long way from being a Colnago expert, my guess is that Colnago has never produced a framev with Reynolds tubing, be it 531c or any other. I'm pretty sure that Colnago used only Columbus tubes of various types, depending on the model, during the 70s and 80s.

I'm also pretty sure that there are Colnago connoisseurs on the forum who'll back this guess up.

A closer look reveals that the 531 sticker is a bit of a red herring! It peeled of rather too easily.

The lugs are fancier than those in the pictures above and I'm pretty sure it's a Super. I'll have a good look over it at the weekend.

I worked in a bike shop in the 70's and never came across any 531 Colnago's...........on the other hand there were a few UK frames made in Columbus

not sure as in the 70's it was a bit underhand...... my 1974 ish TT frame has a rear triangle that looks wrong for 531 as it's not tapered enough. The builder is keeping quiet

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it the 80s before 531c appeared on the market? If you've got a 531c decal on a '70s frame, and an Italian frame to boot, well, you know....

Standard 531 was morphed / changed into 753, 531c, 531 SL in the mid 70's.......... AFAIK
