Hi guys,

I feel a little stupid about this  ...I've had the bike/groupset (first gen 600 SIS) from new and for the life of me cannot remember whether is a freewheel or cassette (I suspect it is the latter).

Question is this, what I have is a Shimano 600 hub, how can I tell from the appearance of the hub whether it is a freewheel or cassette?

Cheers, Rk.

I would think it'll be the 1cm-ish 'bulge' behind the flange on the drive side.

Look in the 1982 catalogue in the archive as it has a nice schematic.

I assume it's 600EX since you mention SIS. You could look on Velobase for hub examples. This is road stuff, let alone way before my time.

1982 catalogue, hit the download link under the picture, its a PDF

Much appreciated, I'd forgotten how useful Velobase is.

Mine is a cassette.

Thanks again,

Rk :D
