Suntour Powerflo cassette to replace Shimano 6 speed

Hi there, I'm still new to bikes and was just wondering on a compatibility question..

Ive got a practically new 7 speed Suntour Powerflo cassette sitting on a mtb wheel in my shed. The 6 speed Shimano unit on my late 80s Emmelle road bike is old and worn. I was wondering if the Suntour unit would fit onto the wheel on my road bike, and if it would still work with the Shimano Tourney derailed

Hmmm don't know off the top of my head, but it would be easy enough to try it out. You will know in 5 minutes if it will go on the cassette body, besides this will give you the opportunity for a proper cleaning of the Shimano unit. As far as the mech goes it should work fine as long as your shifters are in friction mode but may need a slightly more narrow chain.
