Simplex Gear Lever Question

Hi Guys
I recently got my hands on a set of Simplex gear levers.. Only problem is they are mounted on a collar and the bike I want to put them on has braze on lever mounts.

I can get the levers themselves off but I cant shift the very inside piece off... This piece seems to have the lever stop on it. Any pics I seen of bare collars have this piece off and look identical to the braze ons....

I dont want to start ripping and tearing so is there a trick to this or am I missing sommit...?

A while ago, perhaps on another forum, someone posed a similar question.

Someone dug up a parts diagram, which showed that band-on and braze-on shifters varied in a modest, but vital, component: the upshot being that you can't take the shifters off the band and use them with brazed on mounts.

This was for Super LJ shifters.
