Can someone help date my Carlton?

I have just finished restoring an old Carton Super Course frame. Looking at the frame number, I had assumed that it dated back to 1980 but the 531 decal appears older.

Unfortunately I am struggling to find any catalogue pictures either.... Any experts out there?

Pretty solid evidence really

decals / paint / etc can be changed but the frame number looks genuine to me.

Didn't that reynolds decal debut about 1980?

Yes, 1980. A nice Worksop frame, sadly nearing the end of 'proper' Carlton bikes...
