Just a quick thing to chip in with:

I had a hunch that Sun was originally a West Midlands firm, seems I was right; the Sun headbadge didn't make any reference to subsequent relocation to Worksop until '63 according to the link.

The above seems to think that Sun went to Worksop in 1961 ......and were built by Carlton Employees. I assumed that the frames had Carlton frame numbers from then. Usual smoke and mirrors stuff from Raleigh...........

Hi, the sun story gets messy once carlton toke them over, its a story of gradual decline to the bargain basement, but that's a different story. Believe it or not for some reason, the better sun's had the prefix serial number started again in 1964, so 'A' was 1964, with 'J' being 1972/3 which looks about right. Terry

They say that Red and Green should not be seen - but this frame defies that IMHO. I like that combination, it must be the shades of the colours that does it especially with the chrome contrasts.

I thought that once Sun moved to Carlton then they essentially became Carltons, even using the Crespera lugs, wrapover seat stays etc, never knew they kept their own numbers. Learn something new every day. Some info here as well..........

Chaps,
Thanks for the info so are we saying that the frame was built in 1972-1973? will the chrome need re-chroming?
