De-Anodizing

As per above,

I have recently acquired via eBay a Bianchi carbon crankset with 2x gold chainrings.

Is there a DIY method to strip the gold anodizing from the chainrings? I've heard that oven cleaner will do the trick?

Oven cleaner will remove anodising from aluminium - try a diluted solution and leave for a few minutes.

However, be careful not to leave it in for too long because it the oven cleaner will eventually either cause
serious pitting of the aluminium or even dissolve it altogether.

In fact, given that anodising is a hardening process, are you sure you want to do it to the chainrings?
Won't it just lead to them wearing out faster? IT's your stuff, so it's up to you in the end, of course.

Given time, the anodising will wear off the surfaces (tooth/chain interface) where the hardening effect is beneficial in any case; the rest of it is largely cosmetic.
