Due to the clues you have given me, i have found a dropout/hanger like mine. Looks like it is a simplex press dropout. i am looking for a mech like this...... but the chances of me finding one before friday under £70 seems quite slim.......

and in other news, managed to pick a cottered Stronglight (49D?) crankset. I think it will work quite well with the frame...... If i can ever get the left hand pedal off!

I assume you're not trying to remove the left pedal in an anti-clockwise direction? Its just that usually when I hear people say the left pedal won't come off its because they are tightening it :)

Clockwise to remove on the left.

Now that is impressive! Funny how most Americans seem to have a full blown engineering workshop in their garages!

Good to hear the pedal is off :)

I would really like to get my hands on one of those do-darrs! If only i have a lathe in MY basement.

Not wising to go off topic too much, but i have just been told that the frame may not be an Andy Bone and maybe just re-painted buy him. The fame and fork number is 52327, Andy Bone's frames started at 101 in the 1930's and ended at 2289 in the mid 60's.

He used to do repainting and enameling at Mercian before he opened his own shop, so this could have been a paint job by him, but a frame is by who knows who?!!?

turns out it was a Pat Skeates, not an andy bone. made a document on LFGSS if you are to take a look at the project..... couple of nice vintage bikes from the tweed run at the end of the thread..... thanks again for your help and advice.
