I've just noticed a hairline crack on the seat lug of my beloved 1987 Bertoni Specialissama. I don't know how long it has been there and I have'nt noticed any difference in the ride. Doe's anyone have any experience with a cracked lug? Should I be worried?

Is that a crack or a casting line?

Mark.

I've never noticed it before and none of the other lugs have that line.

Cracks don't usually follow a straight line......looks like a casting line to me. They were often left in places where they didn't show. Is there a line under the lowest head tube lug where it joins the down tube?

It does look like a casting line and I can't see any paint damage.

Cracks usually find the shortest route.

Yes it is a very straight line, but the paint has flaked down to the chrome in the very corner of the lug. The paint around the lug has not flaked at all so even if the lug is cracked I would hope the joint would not fail. I'll be sure to inspect it on ocassion just to be sure it dosen't change for the worse. Thanks for the replies.
