Hi folks. Since I seem to have the retrobike bug, today I acquired a Dawes Renown frame, in 5 bar gate size. Not 100% sure what i'm gonna do with it yet, but i'd like to date it first. I've been looking online, but to no avail. Does anyone know if there's a frame number database anywhere?

Regards

Marge

I don't think you can date Dawes bikes from the frame number. I know they changed to that style of head badge in about 1981, but that's all I can offer.

I bought one in the early eighties. Here's a link that somebody else posted.

Unfortunately, their frame number database all went up in a fire I think in the 80's.

Ah. Well I guess that's the end of that. I'll just have to refer to it as a 198? Dawes Renown in future.

Ed de Ball, i've actually already seen your bike, during a search on rb before I bought my frame. It's a lovely bike too. Not sure if mine will be a period resto yet. I'll see how it goes.
