Don't worry - I'm not asking for a valuation!

I've just bought a new commuter (Claude Butler Dalesman) to replace the Dynatech 300 I've been using as a commuter.

I'm pondering whether to split it or sell it whole. It's got some parts that will appeal to people (FSA bars, wheels & stem, Dura-Ace 7400 chainset and mech, Sora 8 speed STI, Ultegra brakes - one tricolor, one modern) but it works nicely as a bike, though it has some issues. One chainstay has quite a lot of surface rust and one dropout screw is missing, the other snapped off in the frame. At the moment it's wearing a layback rack and mudguards. The frame doesn't have any bonding issues.

Would I be better selling the bits individually or should I try and sell it as a whole? My concern is that the frame actually reduces its value rather than enhances it. I'm not obsessed with absolute maximum value though and if someone could make good use of it as it is, I'd be happy to sell it on as is.

You are almost always going to get more money selling a bike bit by bit rather than selling it as a whole. One caveat might be a team bike with some provenance or a very rare machine. That said if the bike is an all original survivor then there may be a discussion about keeping it intact for preservation sake. But this bike does not appear to be in that category, so if you have the time sell it one part at a time.
