Mixing it up - wide (5/6/7spd) chain on 10spd chainset?

My old trusty road bike needs a new chainset and I have the opportunity of picking up a Campag Centaur 10spd at a good price.

It's currently running a 5spd freewheel and 5/6/7spd chain (budget, but good quality and well finished). Theoretically a wide chain should work on 10spd rings. Will I get any real problems in use?

no real problems and it will work. The only minor problem you might encounter is because the chain width is wider than the rings there can be a bit of sideways movment meaning the chain hits the front mech when things arent quite in line. Its not just a case of trimming it on the go, as it will hit both sides as the tension varies depending on how you pedal. Of course this wont happen if you have a super wide (between the plates) front mech. I lived with it on a bike for years.
