Klein questions (newbie)

Hi, this is my first post outside of the mtb threads. I know close to nothing about road bikes but, I've decided that next spring I'm going to add road to my cycling activities.
I want to start out with an old Klein. Can one of you tell me when the production switched to Trek? Also, Is a 98 Stage Comp with 105 group a decent bike? What should I expect to pay for something like that?
Thanks much,
TC

All Kleins are decent bikes and the 'lower' end of the range can offer better value than some of the prices that are being asked for some 'pre-Trek' Quantum Pros at the moment:

I think Trek took Klein over in around 98-00 - but I'm sure the Klein experts on here will know exactly when! And as per the MTBs, pre-Trek models will command a significant premium over the later bikes. However, some of the 'transition' bikes are still very nice and were still built in Chehalis; this is a good example and, in my opinion, a good price for a complete bike:

As per for a 98 Stage Comp: I'd probably pay around £300 for a complete bike going up or down by £100 depending on condition.

:D :D

Having owned five Klein road bikes I find the 97-02 Quantums to be a great bike for stiffness and weight.
The Quantum Pro posted above would be a super sweet ride. They sprint like non-other and climb just awesome.

Having ridden newer felts like the AR2 and the Orbea BLT I always go back to my Quantum thinking "This is what I want in a bike"
