Quite an old article, but still an interesting read about Andy Hampsten's bike that he used on the Gavia. Is it me or were pro-cyclists 'arder then ?: http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/article/historic-pro-bike-andy-hampstens-1988-7-eleven-huffy-giro-ditalia-26181/

After a while you start to wonder what small percentage of the peloton have ever actually been riding team-issue frames which were exactly what their transfers suggested they were. Just a few of the domestiques, probably.

That whole story previously appeared in Jan Heine's 2008 book, The Competition Bicycle, including more great photos of Hampsten's bike. Four years later, Armstrong signed with the team, and the rest is (EPO) history.

A really great read...and a great leveller as to whats important in a bikes qualities!

Hampsten was such a class, yet understated rider, and remains a true pro to this day..one of my fave riders of the eighties/early nineties!

Thats Phil alright but I dont think he's the ref  Check out his expression, he looks well pissed off. Maybe he's about to 'express' his displeasure like captain Hinault.
No political correctness, sponsor poo sucking bullshit there!
