Ok, having looked at some old photos and brochures I am going to go with white bar tape on my project.

What recommendations are there for an early 80s project?

Very early 80's go for Tressostar........and wear gloves :)

Shaun
I used it on the Mattolini (see botm ) lovely look but found it a bugger to wrap...is there a trick I'm missing?

Becareful with the 'new' Ambrosio tape!

The 'holed' tape is being fazed out and replaced with thicker leather effect.[no holes] and thicker carbon effect.[no holes]

Glue on the back is awful and comes off making a mess of your hands and the bar tape and is terrible to get off.

Try to buy 'old stock' tape as this is the best, keep away from the new stuff.

Ambrosio have taken a step backwards instead of forwards

Sam-Cycling in Nottingham sells the white Tressostar/Tressotex tape

What about this too!

and finally don't forget our old friend the Benotto tape in pearl white

Yep! I got some ISCA and was covered in icky goo! The NOS from Nigel at campyoldy is fine ( and in a fab retro box too! ) I have a spare pack in white if you go that route...

thanks for all the comments.

Looking at the old brochures and photos it looks like the old stock Ambrosio tape is the best match.

I have orders a couple of rolls from Campyold.

To anyone not in the know of 'old' and 'new' Ambrosio tape you need to look at the side view of the tape!

The old stuff is thick in the middle and thins out to the edges lovely.

The new stuff is thick in the middle and is fairly thick/thinish on the edges.

We will see what turns up, it is NOS so I hope it's the old stuff.
