Damaged rear hanger. Help.

Bought a bike from the forum from a now banned member and received it with a damaged rear hanger (non replaceable sort) due to piss poor packaging. It was shipped from Poland so sending it back will be pricey. Its a steel frame and the rear end is chromed, its a LOOK 233, i`m guessing i can get it welded but how much of the chrome is gonna be destroyed?

Has anyone on here had to deal with this problem?

Frame must have really been dropped hard to cause that damage?

A quality cycle frame maker like Mercian Cycles or Edison Cycles would weld that up and not much chrome would go bluey/yellow.

The repairer needs to wrap the tubes with damp cloth's to stop heat build up.

What an arse who ever packaged that up i'd want to smash his face in

You still got the shite packaging ? Would like to see it

I'd rather have the whole dropout replaced and properly re-brazed...no chance of a chrome rear end though :(

From a metal work point of view its an easy and strong fix. Just ask around for a decent welder. Can't speak for the chrome though.

Must have been a very heavy impact to break like that

Email that photo around the frame builders for a quote, although I would guess they will all say it needs a new drop out which will be around £70 :?

Did you pay as paypal gift?

I had the sense to pay with standard paypal thankfully. I think the best coarse of action will be to get a quote from a professional frame builder/repairer and claim back through paypal.

If anyone can recommend anyone I'd be very grateful.

As others have said, it is not just the gear hanger but the whole dropout that needs replacing. If you cannot get it chromed maybe get a stainless steel replacement which will sort of match.
Go to one of the few steel frame specialists eg Mercian (Midlands), Bob Jackson (North), Charles Roberts (London).

There are more frame speialist than those listed above. The above are expensive.

There is Ken baker in Colchester or there is a chap who I use for all frame work in Bury St. Edmunds. The latter is is cheaper and work of the same standard. Also I know him well.
