Glue on tibular rims

What is the best way to remove glue from rims ?

I have tried hairdrier , but did not touch it .

How about nail varnish or white spirit ?

If its sticky you want some thinners or petrol. If its hard scrape and don't let it go sticky. Leave as much as you can of a nice level base.

Its very hard , so just leave it ?

I am planning on using tape, not glue .

If it's hard you need to sand it down

The reason I asked is that the red tub glue was an absulute nightmare to remove and was best sanded flat or the bigger bits chipping off......I hated it

Likewise if the old white-ish tub glue is rock hard then it needs sanding flat......
