Cracks in Super Record drive side crank.

I'm sure this must have been covered before but I can't find any previous thread.

Those little cracks in the Super Record crank arm / spider thingy junction.

Do they get so bad that they make the crank snap or do they stop when the crack gets to the thicker part of the casting?

Has anyone had a drive side crank break because of them?

Can they just be removed by filing that thin part off with a round file?

PS. They're not in the Gold Olmo or the Blue Eddy but alas the White Eddy which was a drunken Ebay purchase but turned out to be all white in the end.

Will post pics when turned from grey back to white with a bit of blue.

Ok, I took the file to them and filed the crack away, we'll see.

There has been written so much about this "problem" over the years, that the cure that you used is well-known and well-accepted. In all my years in teh business (dating back into the 70's), I have never seen a single Campagnolo crank suffer these cracks without some mitigating factor, such as banged pedal or banged crank itself. Problems can occur, but they are exceedingly rare and in my view, the likelihood of occurence with one brand or another are likely about the same, so it is not a real Campagnolo problem, but rather one of use.
